Dance 28/04/2010

Barcelona's Teatre Coliseum will, between April 28 and May 16, 2010, play host to the prestigious 2010 Moscow Ballet company, which will be performing Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, two of the most successful works from the classic ballet repertoire, under the artistic direction of Timur Fayziev.

The Moscow Ballet, composed of 30 ballerinas from outstanding Russian ballet companies such as Bolshoi and Stanislavsky, is one of the country's most respected companies. On one hand, from April 28 to May 9, they will be performing Tchaikovsky's classic Swan Lake, a four-act play that tells a tale of impossible love between Prince Siegfried and Odette, choreographed by Lev Ivanov, Marius Petipa and Agrippina Vaganova. While on the other, they will be performing Sleeping Beauty between May 12 and 16, a piece based on Charles Perroult's famous story, composed by Tchaikovsky and divided into two Marius Petipa-choreographed acts.

The Moscow Ballet, which celebrated its 20th birthday as an artistic company last year, was founded in 1989 as the Russian Festival Ballet by Russian choreographer and ballet-dancer Timur Fayziev. It featured soloists from the old Soviet Union's most important companies and was formed in the purist style of Russian tradition. Later on, in 1991, it was selected by ballet-dancer Rudolf Nureyev to accompany him on his final European tour. And in 2010, Timur Fayziev directed a new production of Don Quixote thanks to an invitation by dancer Carla Fracci.

The Moscow Ballet, with over 60 tours and more than 1,000 performances world-wide, is one of the most internationally recognised Russian companies.
